I am currently using Amadeus Pro on a Mac. I am not at the point where I am auditioning and have just been using it for practice, but I was wondering what your opinion of the software is and if it is an appropriate program for use with work that you would typically audition for on Voices123, etc.
Thanks for any feedback.

Hi Chris,
I've not used it, but I've just checked out its website. It looks broadly similar to Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/), which is free. Have you tried that? it may do all you need and more, and save you your $40 into the bargain.
My personal Mac fave is Sound Studio (http://freeverse.com/soundstudio/), which is twice the price of Amadeus, admittedly, but works a treat: fast, rock-solid, festooned with useful keyboard shortcuts.
Cue chorus of "My favourite audio editor is…" :afro:
When you're auditioning, all you need is something that lets you chop up your audio into something nice and digestible, perhaps add a little compression, noise gating, or whatever (but that's whole other topic) and, er, that's about it, really!
Hope that's useful!

Mike--
Thanks for the info. I actually already have a copy of Amadeus, so the money is not so much the issue, its if I can do enough with it... It sounds like it should work for the audition phase, anyway.
By the way, I have not been unhappy with quality of the sound coming out of Amadeus, in fact I think it's pretty good without any tweaking, but, I also know that I don't have an ear for discerning the good sound from the great sound yet!

Ah, don't worry about that. When you're ready you can post some on the board and people will be more than happy to critique your recording technique…
Amadeus, in itself, won't give you any better or worse quality recording than any other piece of software for a straight recording at any given bit rate and sample rate: it's all ones and zeroes coming out of your soundcard or USB interface at the end of the day. Where the software comes into play is in what it can do with the data after it gets there, and some are more flexible and have better quality plugins than others.
What I would say is, even though you've got your copy of Amadeus, try a few others and see how you find them. You may find something you prefer (or not). It's a bit like what car you drive, really (if you drive one at all). Some handle like stunt motorbikes; others like tanks.

Mike--
Great advice, thanks. I think as time goes on I will definitely test drive some other programs to find out what really suits me.
