When my son told me they read an article in school about the most polite city in the world, and that New York cam out on top, I'll admit, even a native New Yorker such as myself wondered if he had been reading it right -- but here it is! And I'm so proud.

I grew up in CT about an hour away. I like to tell people that east coast folks aren't rude, they're just honest.
When I visited NYC for a vacation back in 1999, I found everyone to be helpful and courteous.
I asked a cop where "Nathan's Famous" was and he said... "the one you're looking for isn't there anymore." He knew I was a tourist and was very polite to me. He pointed me to a nearby location. Funny thing was when my wife bit into a Nathan's Famous hot dog she screamed... "it's got SKIN!"

Love those Nathan's -- the crunchy casing is the best!

That's becuase when they did the poll, they only spoke to nice people who had recently moved to New York from Vermont and Sri Lanka.
Nathan's is gone????? <sigh> I remember the shrimp boats fondly and I worked for awhile right across the little street at the Shoot Out The Star Booth.
Extrra points for the name of the place in Sheepshead Bay that had the Steamers by the bucket.

Not to make this a "New York" thread but I have a cute story. My wife and I were walking down 5th Ave. when my wife says... "Look at that beautiful church! Can we go inside?" So we do. After a few minutes I turn to her and say... "My God... this is St. Patrick's Cathedral!!!!"
Not being a religious person, it didn't dawn on me right away.
We had such a great time in New York.

Alright, the place in SHeepshead Bay was called Lundy's - big buckets of steamed Littleneck clams with lots of buttered broth.

Yeah -- it's still there! But I hear Jordan's has good ones, too -- when you're out this way.

This song is an earworm for me...but I like it!
New York, New York/A wonderful town/The Bronx is up and the battery's down/The people ride in a hole in the ground/New York, New York/It's a wonderful town!
(My other major earworm is "America" from West Side Story...how much more New York can you get?)
