Well, I've hesitated on posting this kind of stuff, and indeed this is the first time I've posted in this part of the forum, but it is becoming a big deal. As The CBR travels around the country, I do the SCREAMING, MONSTER TRUCK voice for the Bull Riders. I post produced this one for this forum as I am trying to attain that duty on these as well, but it was provided as dry voice. I liked this one enough that it overcame my fear of embarassment from the "you need to be an actor" crowd. (I think I can do that as well but it doesn't bring home the bacon currently.) The music at the end is to provide time for a local "tag."

Colin,

NICE! You work for who pays you. No need (in my opinion) to be embarrassed by the style that is needed for this. You do a great job on it.

It's funny, I'm an arena announcer, so I know how to do the big, gravelly, yelling type of delivery when it's needed in an arena environment, but have NEVER even attempted that style for any of these types of spots.

I can do a great "impression" of the typical monster truck ad (the one here was... "power, PoWeR, POWER at the HooOOOSIER DOME!!!" )

I've just never pursued that in my VO career.

Nice gig!!

I try to look at it as a "character." I don't persue it really, more like it persues me. The guy contacted me out of the blue from one of my sites.

I don't know if it's a message or anything, but I was embarassed to play this for the group.

I feel like Billy Mays.

Colin, sorry it's taken me this long to respond, but I agree with everyone else here. Do NOT apologize for a piece of work like this. This is an art form in itself that most people do badly. I could never pull off something like this if my life depended on it. Your voice and your production skills are oriented towards this type of thing and it works GREAT for high-energy/get 'em motivated type of spots. Anything less than this just wouldn't have worked for an event like this.

It's just hard for me to look at that avatar of that little albino kid and think the voice is coming from there!

Great job!

Colin, that was awesome. :D And yeah - like everyone else, I agree that you go where the work is - and you do this really well. Nothing wrong with that!

Actually, funny fact, my husband's cousin, BJ Kramps, does bull riding professionally (I don't know if he was on that particular tour). I don't get the impression he's particularly high in the standings, but people seem to like him. :D

That's neat Jodi. I just completed the TV VO for El Paso. Anyone here on the board from El Paso?

Scott... thanks as always for the kind words.

The little albino kid started listening to radio when he was 4, started cutting tape (producing) at 16, first job in radio at 19 so he grew up and his voice changed.

Funny thing is my Mom used to tell me I had an "annoying" voice.

Colin,
Love the spot! I've always loved voicing these kind of spots...although I usually save them for the last thing in my day as my voice is shot after doing them. Great work!

Makes my throat absolutely ache in pain to hear that, but you do it GREAT, Colin! Man, I'd die if I tried to pull that off.

You should try it Scott. I'll give you an inside secret. You do it in short phrases then use production to overlap them.
