DBX 286a Audio

Ok, I got the DBX 286a. I have spent a couple of days playing with it. My goal was very clean, low noise, natural sound. I have had 5 different people give opinions on the audio. I made tweaks, came back, asked the same 5 again. None of the 5 knew what the others had to say about it. My goal was for the recorded audio to sound like I was sitting next to you having a conversation. No low or high end processing, nothing. Just sound like ME. All agree that this is it. So here is myself having a meaningless, rambling conversation just for the sake of having audio to play back. This is the DBX with an AT4040 mic. I am positioned about 6 to 8 inches from the mic talking at a normal conversational level.

Sounds nice. It may just be me, but I was unable to notice where the change was made in the audio.

Out of curiosity, what are you other settings on the 286a?

LOL, you would not be able to notice the change. It was meaningless rambling. I didn't post the first piece, only the changed piece, that is why it mentioned something about change..does that make sense? As far as settings I have the pre set at +20, the output at 0, I used just a twinge of HF enhance it is set at 2 compression is below the 1.5:1 about 1 or 2 notches. the threshold is at -30 everything else is off

How close is your mouth to the microphone?

I am about 6 to 8 inches away with no pop filter on this test.
