Hello there, I'm new to the forum and recently I have been slowly getting into the whole voice over game. I've been doing voices since 2001 when I was a wee lad.
I started with doing fan audio dramas of my favourite TV show, Doctor Who, starring myself as the Doctor. Those adventures can be downloaded in mp3 format from www.doctorwho.damproductions.org (http://www.doctorwho.damproductions.org)
While I continue to do the audio adventures in my spare time, I have been doing odd voice over jobs from such sites like guru.com. It has been fun and I have learnt alot about speed of delivery as well as overal quality and receiving feedback from producers/directors on what they want exactly. A recent job was to reproduce the vocal track for a training video - many an hour I spent transcribing the original video! EEP!
Anyways, please visit the below link to my current voice over as it stands, ignore the PDF resume since I have removed the link as I am updating it. The voice over was produced earlier in the year and doesn't feature a great amount of work but was intended to demonstrate my general vocals.

Any critique is welcome and I look forward to hearing from you all soon.

ps. that is my upandcoming voice over wife introducing me at the beginning :p

I have not had a chance to listen to your entire demo but what I heard sounds pretty good. (Keep in mind that all of us Yanks tend to think anything with a British accent sounds classy. )
The main reason I'm responding is that I used to work with a radio production/VO guy named Dave Nagel and I just sent him the link to your site.
Since you've greedily taken the role of the Doctor for yourself :D I did not audition for your production -- but if you ever need Captain Jack Harkness ...

HAHA! The Nagel population increases! Glad to hear it! And yes, sorry, taken the Doctor, I'd been waiting years previously to play him before we started in 2001.
I intend to update the Demo shortly, maybe add it to the playlist marked 2008 - wondered whether I should be including old stuff too? or just whats new mostly?
But if you do feel the temptation to audition, be my guest :D always looking for new voices in whatever I happen to be producing.
~David.

Hi David...
If you would, allow me to offer my opinion on your demo..
I wasn't sure whether this was a narration, audio book, or character demo....I'm guessing it would be best suited as a character demo...If that's the case, I would add a little more variety with the spots in order to show more range.
the beginning is a little mushy....the explosions drowns out your VO....SO important to start out making an impression! I would basically make some of the spots a big shorter, and move the last spot further up in your demo, because to me, it's your strongest
Overall, you show the potential for some pretty amazing voice acting chops! Looking forward to hearing more from you....

Hiya captain54 thanks for commenting on my demo - apologies in my tardiness in replying! any input is greatly appreciated and you've picked up some fine points which unfortunately I haven't managed to do anything about quite yet. Yes, I believe two separate demos may be in order, narration and character, perhaps?
I've been doing a lot of narrating/tutorial type voices recently and wondered on some recent jobs how much I should be charging for say 5000 words? Would it be fair to ask others how much they would pay for my voice? :p

Definitely a character demo - but also very specifically for the same show. If you are trying to market yourself doing other things - try using some of those characters that you created and write some different kinds of character copy. Watch your plosives.
And I'd suggest recutting your intro - shorter and try to help your wife not pop her "p's" - want to make a good impression right off the bat. In fact, there is really no need for an intro (your name should be in the file name) - give them you right off the bat.

Hi David,
I really enjoyed listening to your demo, but to me this is a radio play demo that will get you radio plays.
I don't know if you could get narration work or commercials with it. I think you need to make separate demos for them.
I agree that there is no need for an intro, most people only listen to the first few seconds of a demo, you want them to hear YOU, otherwise they may end up casting your wife instead! ;-)

LOL! I'm sure she won't mind!
Yes, I will separate different stuff out into separate demos would be a good idea. Would it be any use including stuff that I have auditioned for? given that right now I haven't had much experience past those radio plays or tutorial videos, I'd only have other audition pieces.
Surprised my thread got bumped, thanks WA! :P

Hello again. I've added two Radio Ads I did recently for some companies in the Dothan, US (no idea where that is to be honest, not native over the pond you see) have yet to do a new demo.
Also added a list of credits - are they worth linking to the respective companies?
BTW does the player autoplay for people? I can't make it autoplay anymore, how odd.

Hey David...
I think you'll get more feedback if you post an mp3, or a link to your page (if you want us to view the player)
BTW, for the record, I can't stand auto-play web sites. Immediate turn off.
Cheers,

I've done a new radio ad and will upload shortly.
I'm slowly getting back into this audio lark! I've been busy recording my Doctor Who (http://www.doctorwho.damproductions.org/)series also, below is a quick bash together of a scene from the middle of the forthcoming Series 2. I thought fans might like to hear, do excuse the sound design and the quality of the companion's recording - its all temp work right now.
