A Magic Health Insurance Loophole?
Odd that this would come the same time as a survey on the subject (see another post on the board)...
This week, I officially filed as a "Sole Proprietor"-- I formed a company (newly designed site, too!). The reason I've done this is simple: I am full-time employed with a great production company, but currently supply my (and my wife's) health insurance independently.
Without getting too personal, there are pre-existing conditions, and we need a good prescription plan. Insurance is EXPENSIVE when entering with any health condition. We're dealing with a less-than-small-scale one.
I found out that in my state (NC), I can get "Group of 1" health insurance-- a group plan for people who own a bizness, but have no employees. It will cover me, and my spouse (amazing!). Ideally, we'll include a maternity provision (cause, well, you never know), and form it with a reputable company just like any other policy. Only thing is that it's a GROUP plan.
So far, the quotes have MAJORLY beat those of any individual coverage I have come across (and I've looked, BELIEVE me).
I'm sharing this because, though I haven't signed up yet, it seems to be a helpful loophole in an otherwise screwed up system.
Thoughts?
