I have the Violet Design Dolly Black. It was made in the same factory by the same engineers/subcontractors and with the same circuit board as the BLUE Baby Bottle, and sounds like a good Baby Bottle for less money. It has the exact same specs as the Baby Bottle, the main difference is that it is a dual-diaphragm mic. There was a lawsuit over the Violet group making mics similar to Blue, one result of which is that Violet has a cease-and-desist order on the Dolly, but I've heard clips of the Globe, Finger, Black Knight, and Amethyst Standard and they're all excellent. Violet has the green light to make their current range of mics despite the bad first steps they made. Paul McCartney's recent album was recorded with a lot of Violet gear. I've read some engineers think that the Flamingo Jr. ($750) is comparable to the 414 or the 103 and a good vo mic. My next mic purchase will either be the Flamingo Jr. or the Amethyst. BTW, Violet is supposedly the name of the CEO's wife .

I replaced my AT4040 with the Dolly: it has more midrange detail, sharp but not spitty highs, and the lows aren't as boomy (which is good for me). You can actually get really close to this mic for whispery reads and sometimes I choose the Dolly for that reason.

I'll post some Dolly samples, but right now I'm off for a week since I just had two impacted wisdom teeth removed.
